How is everyone's 2009 going? So far mine has been eerily similar to the final weeks of 2008.
One change is that, with the holidays over, Ross has ratcheted up the job search. He's been spending a lot of time on the computer doing referrals, networking, sending out querries... This morning he came down from his office and asked cheerfully "how would you like to live in L.A.?" He might as well have asked me how I would like a stick in the eye. Apparently there is a technical artist's position open there. I know that in the this economy we will have to take what we can get - but Los Angeles? Anyway, I'm praying harder than ever that something will pop up here in Illinois or, our second choice, North Carolina.
Another change, one of my New Year's resolutions, is that I'm getting more intentional about cooking. Our budget and my waistline require more healthy, home cooked meals. I bought a book on clearance filled with low-cost recipes and am excited by all the yummy possibilities. However, the best thing to come out of the book hasn't been any particular recipe, but the conviction that planning ahead and not wasting ingredients or left overs are essential to eating on a budget. I know a lot of you are probably saying "duh" but this is a new concept for me!
Another one of my resolutions is to go to church more regularly. Our attendance was really spotty in 2008. I know from experience the joys and benefits of meeting weekly with a community of fellow strugglers to worship God and learn from his word and I can't afford to pass up on the blessings of being a committed part of a church in 2009. So far we're 1 and 0 for the season ;)

It was a happy day for him when he gave us our new lives, through the truth of his Word, and we became, as it were, the first children in his new family. JAMES 1:18 LB
Cooking can be fun and I know you will fall in to a happy Church going routine. They can both be rewarding activities. I would hate it if you went to LA.
Hi Kim, I hope you and Ross are really enjoying the forced seclusion, but I hope you get out together once and a while (Soup at Cappy's?) Love
No move would be permanent unless you made it so. Be open to whatever God provides on the job front.
As for the church going front, you are right. It is easy to get out of habit, even with the best of intentions
LA is GORGEOUS! Heat would probably be good for your fibromyalgia and all that sunshine... oh, you'd probably grow to love it.
I'm with "Friar Tuck," keep an open mind. I know that leaving a comfort zone and family can be hard but you CAN always find your way back to IL if you want to.
Just my $0.02.
Good luck to Ross in the job search.
Hi Kim,
I hope you have your glasses on the next time Ross decides to poke you in the eye with a bright idea again! Good Luck! LA is very expensive how could anyone afford to live there??? I hope he finds something else soon!
I used to get the "Cooking Light" Magazine in the mail by (Taste of Homes) it came every other month. I always looked forward to getting the new addition and loved trying the new recipes. The best part is that every recipe had a beautiful photo to go with it. I can't use a cookbook with no photos.
Thanks for all the feedback! No worries Mom, L.A. is an outside possibility at best. I love the idea of CA weather, but not CA prices! Ross lived in CA before he came to Chicago and he told me that we would probably have to rent because houses are so expensive out there.
Cooking is going well :) I made a yummy orange salmon with pasta and green beans last night and chicken breasts with rice and mixed veggies tonight. Fruit smoothies for desert :P I may never have to eat a Big Mac again (yeah, right).
Hey Kim thats crazy. You can not move to LA. I too would love to get back into a church going routine! So far the new year has been mostly crazy. But I feel like it's crazy in a direction and not crazy in circles, so thats good.
