What's Up

  • I think Remy has learned to wave. I am not 100% positive. He is allusive, like a jungle cat.
  • My incision is healing well but my energy level is in the tank. I just started my thyroid hormone a few days ago so hopefully I will feel better soon.
  • I bought Rosemary, Basil and Moss Rose at Walmart the other day. I go out on the balcony to admire them every couple of hours. I think the Moss Rose already needs a bigger pot.
  • Was NOT impressed with the last two episodes of Doctor Who (6.5 and 6.6). Crappy writing. Hoping the mid-season finale next week will make up for it!
  • Ross will be playing drums in all four services next week. For some reason I am nervous about it and he is not. I haven't seen him play in a band since the Park Community Church days when we were dating!
  • The whacky Las Vegas real estate world is not being very cooperative, but Mom and Dad keep plugging away. Fingers crossed that they will get some good news this week.

Mom and Dad with Remy during their visit. Check out Dad, rocking the Hawaiian shirt!

Remy soft padding it across the living room like a panther in a basketball shirt.

Meet the Moss Rose. A succulent happy to bloom in hot, arid conditions.

A motley crew. Basil, Gardenia, Periwinkle, Rosemary, Moss Rose. You can also see a little bit of my Mini rose bush. Not pictured: spiky-overgrown-mystery-plant, yellow-flowering-ground-cover-plant and not-long-for-this-world parsley.

Remy's 1 Year Check-up

Remy had his 1 year check-up the last day that Mom and Dad were here so Mom was able to go with me and record the occasion (she was there taking pictures at his first wellness check too.)

They took his measurements and he is pretty much right where he was last time

  • Length, 30" = between percentile 75 and 90
  • Weight, 21 lbs. = in percentile 10
  • Head Circumference = between percentile 25 and 50

He also had four shots and he cried so hard we thought he was going to pass out! Poor little guy :( I gave him some tylenol when we got home and by the afternoon he was peeling off his band-aids and pretty much back to normal.

The most interesting thing was that his pediatrician gave me a referral to our state's Early Intervention program for speech delay. I was pretty shocked because I had heard that it was fairly normal for boys not to be talking at one year. She said it can take weeks to months to get an evaluation so it is good to get his name in now and just see what they have to say.

I played phone tag with the coordinator for a couple of days and then went in for my surgery so I haven't signed him up yet. I think I will wait a couple more weeks because he seems right on the cusp of talking and I don't want to waste their time.

In other big news, I gave him a hair cut. His very first hair cut. And I messed it up. I'll post pictures soon.

Fingers Crossed

My parents have put in an offer on a condo here in Las Vegas. It is hard for my brain to comprehend the idea that they may actually be Las Vegans before long, it is too awesome! I am sending up sweaty, anxious prayers about every ten minutes that their offer is accepted!

Look at these two - who wouldn't want them as nearby as possible?

May Flowers

Have I mentioned that I love flowers? Even in the desert, May means beautiful flowers to ooh and aah over.

How BA is That?

So yup, I had my thyroid out! Here is my list of things that make my life better after surgery:
  • Chinese take-out
  • rainbow sherbet
  • cotton baby doll dresses with built in pockets
  • lip stick and bronzer so I don't scare myself when I walk by the mirror
  • fluffable pillows
  • Tina Fey's Bossypants
  • a husband to do the heavy lifting
  • prescription pain medication - duh!
  • Netflix
  • a very snuggly cat with a lot of back mats to comb out

Breakfast Collage

Noteworthy...

Sunday, May 08, 2011

When the temps are in the 90s going to the park mid-afternoon is not so appealing, but after sunset it is paradise. Last night we picked up a bucket of chicken at KFC and drove down to Mountain Crest to lie in the grass and enjoy the breezes. Oh, and if you were Ross and Remy, to zip around like mad men.

Danger, Danger!

As Owen Stanger could tell you, Remy is a little hair puller. Piper has a very low tolerance for hair pulling. I had to jump in and intervene here before Piper decided to demonstrate for Remy the discipline method she used to use on her own offspring!

Cats Under the Kitchen Lamp

Sugar napping under the lamp.

Tory snacking on my mystery herb. So that is why the leaves have been getting holes in them...

I probably don't post as many pictures of these two - Sugar because she is so angelic I barely notice she is here, and Tory because she is psychotic and spends her waking hours darting madly behind corners and under beds. (And, apparently, eating my kitchen herbs.)

The Momentous Month of May

  • In 4 days my parents will fly out to visit and maybe, possibly, God-willing, find a place they would like to live.
  • In 6 days my baby boy will turn one.
  • In 13 days my thyroid will be totally and permanently removed from my body.
Whoa.

My New Lens

When I got home from grocery shopping yesterday my lens was waiting for me at the front door. It took all of my will power to put the groceries away first, but then I tore open the package, pulled out the lens (it feels so small!), and snapped it on the camera. Here are the very first pictures I got, SOOC (straight out of the camera):

They may not look impressive, but normally in that sort of light, with little buddy wriggling around and being cute, it would be impossible for me to get pictures that well exposed (unless I used a flash, in which case they would be MUCH better exposed, but not nearly as cute.) In the last picture, where I had much better light, the level of detail is amazing. The pores of my skin are nothing short of terrifying. Good job, little lens! :P

I can't wait to play with it more today!

On the Go at Town Square

Steph and I were introduced to Town Square (according to its wikipedia page, Town Square is a shopping center modeled after a European village...trying to imagine a European village with astro turf...) when she was in town by a friend from our Photo group. In the middle of this outdoor mall is a playground complete with water feature and a maze. I love it, it's like going to the park, except with shopping and food! This weekend I convinced Ross to make the drive to see it himself. We all had a good time, but I think Remy had the best time.

Remy leads Ross on the charge!
