Night Swimming

We've made a wonderful discovery. Not only do we love going down to the pool at the end of a hot day, after the sun has gone down and all the neighborhood kids have cleared out, but Remy does too. 9 o'clock is his bed time and normally 8-9pm is his roughest hour of the day. He gets fussy and strangely hyper and it's difficult to get him to wind down for sleep. But at the pool side the warm desert breezes and the lapping water instantly calm him and he is content to sit back and soak in the evening while we soak in the hot tub. When we get back I tuck my sleepy baby in and then drape the towels and bathing suits out on the balcony under the stars, and life feels absolutely perfect.

Hey Kim,
I just quickly saw your post and not to give you unwanted advice, but with Elsie (and Lee too) I realized that when they were like that at night, it was because I was putting them to bed too late. It sounds weird i know, and they were only like that at night. But try putting Remy to bed by 7:30 and see if that helps.

Also, if this helps you (I always read other mom's blogs hoping to find out their schedules) so if you're not interested, please just skip this. I don't want to give you unwanted advice. I'm the person that loves it though, so I thought I would send you what Elsie's schedule is like (it's been this way for quite some time now too).

7am - I wake her up, Breakfast & bottle
9am - nap
11:30am - wake her up, bottle
1:30-2pm - nap
5pm - she's usually awake by now
5:30pm - bottle & baby food
7pm - bottle & bedtime

Ok, hopefully I didn't offend you or hurt your feelings. Like I said, I know I always liked the advice and help. Miss you and I can't wait to meet Remy when you come for Thanksgiving!

Sara, I appreciate the advice, thank you! So Elsie sleeps from 7pm to 7am? Does she wake up for a feeding at some point in between?

Lately I have been thrilled that Remy is sleeping from 9pm to 6am! Then I will change him, give him a bottle and he will go back to sleep until 8. We both get up at 8 and he goes down for his first nap at 10:30, then his second nap is at 2, and his third nap is around 5. Occasionally around 7:30 he will just conk out for a twenty minute cat nap so you are probably right! I can't wait to try it!

Hey Kim,
I would say 2 nights a week, Elsie will wake up about 4-5am to have the extra feed to catch her up. But it's not every night. When she wakes up, I just feed her, change her and put her back to bed and she'll go back to sleep. It's usually just a 20 minute wake time.

If Remy is only napping for 45 minutes to an hour, try leaving him for 10 minutes to see if he'll go back to sleep on his own. Or put his bink in and leave him for 10 minutes. You didn't put when he's waking up, but me doing the math, it's seems like it's only an hour(ish). Sleep cycles are 45 minutes. They should sleep for 2-3 cycles each nap period. My book I read said if they wake up after the first cycle (usually they wake up crying) to leave them for 10 minutes to see if they go back to sleep. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. But if Remy gets into that light sleep and wakes up, see if he'll go back down for you so he's taking longer naps during the day. Then he might cut the 3rd nap out, and go to bed earlier. Otherwise it looks like you're on a 2.5 hour schedule (which means, from the time he wakes up to the time he goes back to sleep is 2.5 hours). That's about the same for Elsie too!
