are you into CCM that much or no?

I'm assuming you are not asking about the magazine...

I'm not one of those people that thinks "Christian" is a type of music. You know, like some people would say "I listen to Jazz, Classical, and Christian." I don't get that.

On the other hand, I do like to look for and buy music by really good, Christian artists (whether they are on a Christian label or not.) I think artists who incorporate their faith into their work are often unfairly pigeonholed by the industry.

What are your thoughts on CCM?

As hard as I've tried I've never been able to get into rap as an art. The closest I can get are hip-hop hybrids like 13 & God or TV on the Radio, both of which are decidedly non-Christian.

As far as CCM (Contemporary Christian Music???) my main problem with it is it traditionally lacks creativity. Of course that's pretty much the problem with all contemporary music so I guess it's just par for the course.

I completely agree with you Kim about Christian music not being a genre. Though the I don't know any other Christian Labels besides Sounds Familyre which was started by Daniel Smith and mostly just has his friends and family on it. Sufjan's label, Asthmatic Kitty is also predominantly Christian with such greats as Liz Janes, the Castanets, and Half-Handed Cloud.

Kim, I would really really recommend the Castanet's Cathedral album. It's slow and takes a loooong time to get into, but once you do it will haunt you like crazy.

Oh! Dolorean is good, too. Alt-country type stuff.

There's also a movie I want to see called Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music which is about Christian music. I only saw one clip of it and it just about made me cry. It was Daniel Smith talking about creativity and how Christians are so responsible for making creative music because God is so creative and that type of thing. It really rung true with me.

Oh well.

Hi Scott, thanks for weighing in on this one. I really appreciate your perspective on music. That movie sounds interesting.

Hi Steph, that was echoing green. I still have that one Rueben CD and doesn't Mark have another one of his CDs?
