More Flooding!
Early yesterday morning I was awakened by a cacophony of drip, drip, dripping. The temperatures were rising fast, all the accumulated snow was melting, and it was raining on top of that. By the end of the day the temperature had risen into the 50s and more than an inch of rain had fallen. There are only a few stubborn patches of white left and, in place of the snow that once blanketed the neighborhood, we now have pervasive flooding including, once again, our basement! Fortunately, the basement only got about an inch of water in the very worst spots. I'm very grateful for the sub-pump, which has been whirring into action like clockwork for the last couple of days. The weather service reports that this was a record breaking year for Chicagoland with 50.58 inches of precipitation total.

One thing about your yard, it's never boring. I'm glad Mommy thought of boots for you. Love and Sorry I missed you on Christmas.
yeah, the boots have really come in handy! Btw, I saw the boots you got Mama, they are beautiful!
I hope that sump pump keeps up with the precipitation and no more water finds a home in your basement.
I continue to be thankful that our house is elevated a bit from the street level and we haven't had a problem with flooding, especially when many others have.
There is a small leak in the roof over the kitchen (it is a flat roof over the addition) ... but all of that can be easily caught by placing a bowl on the floor. :o)
I still think the charm of the old house is worth all of the quirks and ... uh, hiccups in the road.
We'll have to get you some fish for that backyard pond!
